MEESTER
Senior Economist
OECD

Wouter Meester is a senior economist with over 20 years’ experience spanning the public and private sectors, as well as international organisations, advising governments and companies on economic, strategic and policy issues. He recently conducted a study on how lowering regulatory barriers can accelerate the deployment of solar, wind and pumped hydro storage in the EU.

Before joining the OECD, he was senior-manager at PwC Consulting in the Netherlands and Canada. At PwC, he advised companies, governments and (non)governmental organisations on economic and strategic issues – including competition, regulation, strategy development and economic impact. He was also a merger case handler at the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets, where he assessed the impact of mergers on the Dutch competitive landscape.

At the OECD, he currently manages projects, develops data analytics and writes papers to help economies develop and implement effective policy reforms related to competition, regulation and the green transition. Previously, he held different positions at the OECD, including Competition Expert and Team Lead within the Competition Division, focused on the advancement of competition law and policies around the world, and Project Manager in the Global Relations and Cooperation Directorate, focusing on improving competitiveness in Central Asia and Eastern Europe.
