The Right Honourable Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg has been the sixth Premier of Sarawak since January 2017. He also oversees Finance and New Economy, Natural Resources and Urban Development, and Energy and Environmental Sustainability.  

Since first elected in 1981, he has held key portfolios, including industrialisation, tourism, and housing. Under his leadership, Sarawak aims to be a developed, high-income state by 2030, targeting RM282 billion in economic output. Remarkably, Sarawak achieved high-income status in 2022—seven years ahead of schedule— with a GNI per capita exceeding USD13,205 (RM61,442).  

A strong advocate for the green economy, he champions sustainability, decarbonisation, and ESG-aligned policies. His administration is driving Sarawak’s transformation, capitalising on global trends such as digitalisation, IR4.0, circular economy, and supply chain resilience. Internationally recognised, he has shared Sarawak’s green economy and net zero vision at global forums in Europe, Singapore, and Japan.  

Under his leadership, Sarawak is pioneering hydrogen as a clean fuel, renewable energy, CCUS, carbon trading, and Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) from algae biomass, positioning itself as a regional leader in energy transition and climate action..
