Eng. Munyaradzi Crispen Munodawafa is the Chief Executive of the Zambezi River Authority (ZRA), a bi-national organisation responsible for the sustainable management of the Zambezi River section shared by Zambia and Zimbabwe. With over 45 years of extensive experience in the energy sector, spanning power engineering, renewable energy, water resources, and large dam management, Eng. Munodawafa plays a pivotal role in harnessing the shared water resource for equitable industrial and socio-economic development across both nations.
His responsibilities include managing the Kariba Dam, overseeing its operation, maintenance, and dam safety, alongside hydrological and environmental monitoring. Under his leadership, the ZRA successfully completed the Plunge Pool Reshaping component of the Kariba Dam Rehabilitation Project in Q4 2024 and is currently implementing the Spillway Refurbishment, targeted for completion by September 2026. He is also driving the conclusion of pre-development activities for the 2400MW Batoka Gorge Hydro-Electric Scheme, advancing pre-feasibility studies for the 1000MW Devil’s Gorge Hydro-Electric Scheme, and exploring a Photovoltaic Floating Solar Power Plant on Lake Kariba.
Eng. Munodawafa holds an MSc in Electrical Engineering and an MBA, and is a Fellow of both the Zimbabwe Institute of Engineers (ZIE) and the Engineering Institute of Zambia (EIZ).
