Luciano Canale is Senior Hydropower Specialist at the European Investment Bank. He graduated with a Masters degree in hydraulic structures from the Technical University of Naples, Italy in 2001. He is an internationally recognised hydropower expert with nearly 25 years of experience in the implementation of hydroelectric schemes and dam projects. He started his career as a dam engineer and has headed as a Project Manager feasibility studies, design and site supervision for several large dams and hydropower projects in Sub-Saharan Africa, Southeast Asia and Eastern Europe. Over the last ten years he has been a Senior Hydropower Specialist at the World Bank and Project Director of the Ruzizi III Hydropower Project in East-Africa. In his current role at EIB, he covers both public and private financed hydropower with a global footprint. He is responsible for the appraisal and the monitoring of several Pumped-storage projects inside the European Union.
