Frédéric CORREGE is the Secretary General of the International Commission on Large Dams (ICOLD).
ICOLD leads the profession in establishing standards and guidelines to ensure that dams are built and operated safely, efficiently, cost-effectively, while being environmentally sustainable and socially equitable.
Frédéric joined the board of ICOLD in 2024. Previously, he had worked for 15 years in Hydropower at EDF, after holding various management positions in IT and HR.He was notably in charge of the two largest Pumped Storage Plants in France (Montezic 910 MW and Grand Maison 1800 MW), as well as 40 dams and hydropower plants.
It is important for him to emphasise that hydropower is the cornerstone of the clean energy transition, as it provides flexible energy storage and is essential for ensuring grid stability as variable renewable energy increase.
ICOLD issued a World Declaration on Dams and Reservoirs for Energy Transition and Adaptation to Climate Change in May 2025 in Chengdu. This declaration was endorsed by IHA and other international organisations and highlights the role of Pumped Storage Plants in the energy transition.
Frédéric is particularly committed to any initiative that values the positive environmental impacts of dams and reservoir as they contribute to water needs and the energy transition, often outweighing other negative impacts.
