Alejandro Gonzalez Lobos is Technical Director and leads the Hydropower Team at GHD Australia. With more than 20 years of international experience and a background in civil hydraulic engineering, Alejandro has specialised in the planning, design and engineering management of hydropower and pumped storage projects, leading multidisciplinary teams across all project phases.  

Throughout his career, Alejandro has delivered hydropower solutions that balance technical excellence, sustainability, and operational performance. His professional journey reflects a strong commitment to the role of hydropower in enabling the global energy transition.  

Having worked on large and complex hydropower projects where technical, contractual, and commercial risks must be carefully managed, he has developed projects across a variety of procurement models, including construct-only, design and build, EPC, and Early Contractor Involvement (ECI).  

With experience as both project owner and consultant, he brings valuable insight into managing risks across owners, contractors, and equipment suppliers to ensure seamless and successful project delivery.  

Alejandro is particularly interested in how contracting strategies and risk allocation influence project outcomes and delivery certainty. At this session, he will share lessons learned from two decades of delivering complex hydropower developments.
