Studio Pietrangeli’s history dates back to 1964 when Giorgio Pietrangeli, following his father’s footsteps, established the firm as it is today to provide engineering services for large dams and hydropower projects.
Studio Pietrangeli is currently the leading Italian, and a foremost European, consultancy firm in dams and hydropower. Still family-owned and managed, SP’s permanent staff totals approximately 150 professionals.
Over the past 60 years SPhas gained remarkable experience in the design of over 250 dams, more than 150hydropower plants and 30 pumped storage projects.

· All engineering services for Rio Grande (750 MW), still South America’s largest pumped storage
From its beginnings,Studio Pietrangeli has been involved in complex engineering tasks requiring innovative solutions. Several of our projects, given their innovative solutions and importance, have been written about and/or cited in prestigious magazines such as National Geographic or The Economist. Our dams were used to illustrate banknotes (Sierra Leone), as a re-chargeable phone card and for bond issues (Ethiopia).
